I absolutely love it when my children create artwork for me. My son’s proud stance while holding up the piece of paper into the air to make sure I see every detail makes me proud in return. It sends me back to when I was little and my imagination was endless. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the real world and worry about “real” stuff. Watching my son focused on only his drawing and hearing the stories behind his art, helps me let go of real life even for just a little bit.
My children’s drawings definitely inspire me to be creative and help slow down our hurried lives.
Do you have your children’s artwork up on the fridge or in your office or framed to inspire you?
I don’t have children of my own yet, but I teach preschool and every child in my class feels like they’re mine! I just love them so much, and I totally understand what you’re describing with the way they present a finished craft to show my teaching partners or their friends. They occasionally make something for me at home and bring it for me–so precious! Are you a mommy who saves everything, or do you tend to take pictures and store them on the computer/printed books?
I save a lot. I want to buy some nice frames to hang the art in groupings. That’s really sweet about your students. My son really looks up to his teachers, too. Preschool is a very special time in a child’s life. That’s really great that it means so much to you, too.
