Feeling Gray in the Kitchen

It’s about time for me to start working on my kitchen and I don’t mean cooking in my kitchen. The cupboards are in great shape so my husband will paint them and we’re thinking dark. Dark gray. Gray is quiet and subdued and is a place of calm. Maybe the kitchen will be a relief in my very busy world. Gray isn’t a glamorous color but it is elegant. This will go wonderfully with marble counters. The neutral gray will help the marble pop. Below I have some kitchens for inspiration. Does this look inspire you? Maybe it will inspire Ma to cook a little more!

The Warmth of Exposed Brick

Exposed brick was a focal point in a couple of my New York City apartments. I really miss the brick and I plan on adding a brick wall to my current kitchen with two shelves to display a few, important items. It’s simple and rustic yet adds so much warmth to the space. Do you like the look of exposed brick in a home?

Accented by a Pillow

I seem to be on a constant quest for the perfect accent pillow. A room can be somewhat plain and ordinary but add a snazzy, colorful pillow and there you have it… a touch of pizzazz! My living room is gray with some tan which is across from the navy dining room with tan curtains. I’d like to tie the navy into the living room with a pop of navy in the accent pillows. Then again, I must admit one of my huge pet peeves. I hate it when someone sits on one of my pillows! I sit there, watch, and try to figure out my plan of attack to pull the pillow out from under the behind! Do beautiful accent pillows inspire you? Do we share the same pet peeve?

The Great Glass Room

Oh how I love the outdoors. I’d love to sit outside all day, relax and daydream! However, there are a few problems to this scenario. I really don’t like being out in humidity, extreme heat or around bugs!! The next best thing is being in a glass room. Perhaps this isn’t the “next” best thing but “the” best thing. What a novel idea and great inspiration. Do any of these rooms inspire you? The final photo inspires me most. I could write a lot of “to do” lists in one of those chairs.

Colorful Mondays {red, white and blue}

It’s a holiday in the United States… Memorial Day! The last Monday in May is always reserved for this day. It is a day of remembrance to those who died in active military service and we say thank you. In honor of the day, this Colorful Monday offers a touch of red, white and blue… the colors of the flag!

The Hello Hallway

The entrance into the home is the first meeting of your home and it can never make a second first impression. It’s important to keep the space clean and clutter-free. The last thing I want a guest to see as she walks in my door is a pile of dust next to a pile of shoes! Does it inspire you to look at these gorgeous hallways? For me, today’s inspiration stems from the first photo below of Joanna Gaines’ home in Waco Texas. She is a mother of four very young children and I read about her home tour on Design Mom‘s site this morning. Looking at this photo has my mind going in a million directions from wanting to clean the house to wanting to redecorate. I guess cleaning would be the less expensive option but I love the floors, the light and the ceiling! Which photo is most inspiring for you?

Colorful Mondays {kitchen countertops}

I wonder what it would feel like to wake up to a very colorful kitchen. There are so many countertop options out there. Would a bright yellow counter brighten your day? Would a pale blue counter soothe you? I like to know there are options but I will stick with my very favorite… the marble. That counts as color… white with a swirl of gray. It looks perfect to me! Do you have a colorful counter?

Friday Finds [chairs]

This post will be short because I’m baking cookies and it is gorgeous outside!! The kids and I are going back and forth between the backyard, back porch and kitchen. I love spending time outside in this weather before it’s too hot and buggy. Meanwhile, when I was looking at nurseries this week, I found a very cool rocking chair that I have to share! It’s so sleek. Rocking in this chair, the Ryder Rocking Chair, would certainly lull a baby to sleep yet in style. This Scandinavian-inspired chair transfers well into another room aside from a baby’s room. I’d like to move this into the family room where the comfort could be shown off a bit. This chic chair is sold at West Elm.

And then there is the whimsical Bloom Chair designed by Filipino designer, Kenneth Cobonpue. I found this chair on www.Justychair.com. This site sells chairs with unique designs. This would also be such a great addition to a nursery because it’s youthful and fun. It could definitely carry over to an older girl’s room. It would be sweet to see a baby in this chair and some years later to see a girl resting in the same chair while chatting on the phone. Do you find creative chairs inspiring? Have a great weekend!
